Sgt Vance Bonds - I was just having fun with you. I never suspected you were taking a shot at me or any other politician who only held the job because they were asked to, as I had been, or those wanting to address a situation in their community they feel needs to be addressed. What I saw during my years as a councilman, and as a city planner before that, was that in lower levels of political office, most just want to help their community, But the higher up you went, or the larger the city, it was just as you posted -- a bunch of self centered egotists. Because I had been named Veteran of the Year for the US about that time, plus as a recipient of the DSC, folks from much higher up the political pecking order, to include the Governor, wanted me to run for State Assembly or State Senate, but I wanted no part of that. I liked the Governor, Dixie Lee Ray, a lot, but the rest of those folks at the state and national level gave me the creeps. When I met Mike Lowry in 1980, an eventual Governor and Congressman, shaking his hand was disgusting. I felt as though I was shaking hands with a child molester (which I don't think he was) so had to immediately go wash my hands. I decided politics was not for me. Midway through my second term I purchased a farm half way across the state, resigned my position and never looked back. BTW, I was as caustic on the council as I am here. I always spoke my mind, some folks liked that about me, while some folks despised me for that -- just like a few here on RP. Being an outsider, I couldn't nave cared less about families with money, which pissed them off because they were used to having influence on politicians, but I had no problem saying things to their face that would get me kicked off RP. I spent all my spare time voluntarily helping veterans and their families with claims. So pretty much every voter in the city had a family member or close friend for whom my efforts greatly improved their lives. So no one would run against me, and when someone said something disparaging about me the citizens would be all over them like ugly on an ape. You're right, I was pretty much the same guy 35 years ago that I am now, only I was a young curmudgeon, not an old one. Anyone doing right by folks, like President Trump did with the Mission Act, expanding VA medical benefits and caregiver benefits, will enjoy my support and praise. But do wrong to veterans like Komrade Zero did by letting honorable veterans die while waiting to get medical care, I become their most vocal opponent.

I do think many are disgusting. I met Leon Penatta when he gave me an award. It was like listening to a used car salesman trying to sell vacuums. Couldn't believe anything he said....even about me. He was disgusting. Everything would be turned to how great he was and what he was doing. I can't stand national politicians.
Thank you for everything you did for vet's. So many people just threw us away. Very disappointed. Very heart broken.
