Do you think there's an apft and h/w problem in the Army and if so what may be the contributing factors?

Could you explain what you mean a little further, SFC (Join to see)?

Do you mean that people might not meet height/weight but still be able to kick butt on the APFT?

Or do you mean that Soldiers are generally overweight and unfit?

I think you mean the latter of my two guesses. I'll say that I do see some Soldiers and NCOs that make me wonder who's doing the tape test. It's been close to a decade since I had to take the APFT, so I can't comment on that in today's Army. I do believe there may be a problem with not sticking to the standards (in some cases). It was an issue in my day (the head-bob pushups, for example), and I doubt things have changed terribly much.

There’s not a problem with the standards. I believe the problem is with the graders. Also, if I’m wrong, I think the commanders should read the part of the regulation about it being their discretion that the should give BCP to soldiers for appearance.

As a former paratrooper there, I'll have to disagree. It all comes down to individual units.
