How many remember the battle of North Hollywood?
North Hollywood cops trapped a pair of bank robbers and found themselves outgunned. The perps were armed with automatic rifles (AK 47), carrying a large supply of ammo in large capacity magazines, and wearing full body armor. Cops scrambled to break into gun stores and arm themselves better.

Will you be able to react as they did when faced with superior fire power? This is why arguments that our 2nd Amendment rights are limited to certain types of weapons with limited capacities and power are spurious. The 2nd Amendment wasn't written to protect our right to hunt or shoot in competitions. It wasn't written to protect our right to defend ourselves against criminals. Actually, it wasn't written to protect anything. The 2nd Amendment is merely an affirmation of our Natural or God-given Right to defend ourselves, including to defend ourselves from our government.

I do and this incident is the reason the police are so militaristic. Until then, the heaviest thing the patrol cars would carry was a shot gun. SWAT, ERT, or whatever their special units are called were the only ones that carried assault rifles.

The police, going paramilitary, would probably have happened anyway but this was what gave it the good kick in the ass to get it moving that way.
