Had I stayed in, that would have been of interest to me. But, my wife probably would have shot me before the bad guys had a chance. I have been jealous of the riverine forces since Viet Nam.

Yes master Chief the reason they have created the command is so they can create like close loop system for sailors that like this type of stuff and would not effect their movement up the ranks. Example Gunners mates can go Riverine for Sea duty then go to NSW or NECC shore commands and then back to NECC Sea Commands like he could go Seabees and still stay on track. I enjoyed my job and have been all over the world on the ground and some times in harms way, but loved every minute of it and the young troops that did the jobs.

I'm well aware of NECC. As a somebody who did most of his deployments on the ground, I had two warfare pins: SCW, the other EXW. I earned the former with a Seabee battalion, the latter with NSW. I knew plenty of people that were in what was previously known as the In-Shore Bout Units, now called MSRONs (Maritime Security Squadrons), unless that's changed again. They deployed a lot, and I wish I could've done a couple more pumps to the CENTCOM AO before I punched. I joked that I was considering stowing away with one that was based in New England and deploying forward so I could get the hell away from the War College! Those units have good camaraderie.

You one of the few and the proud and from all your duties you are prime example because fleet rates can stay green and improve the mission readiness at each unit they go to and can speak the green speak. They have combined MSRON's and Riverine they still have the advance combat riverine but I believe that is two designated teams to work directly with SOF, but the others are still certified to do the SOF mission just not desg.

One of my buddies, Bryan Zimmerman, an HMCS, was and may still be stationed with a Riverine unit on the East Coast. I think they wear berets at those outfits, but I might be wrong about that.
