I actually think this is a smart move. Microsoft has acknowledged that they want to make their systems available to the programmer and application engineer.

Why???? Are they going to copy Apple and make Windows a GUI on top of a Linux kernel?

MS Still has XBOX, applications software (which gets lots of money - Office), etc, so they are bringing in revenue...

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - I forgot about XBox. I'm not a gamer. Good point, though. I forgot how many schools buy licenses for students to use MS software for free.

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow they wouldn't be copying Apple. Mac OSX runs on top of BSD not Linux. Just because the command line looks similar doesn't mean that they are the same.

Now onto the subject at hand, the new CEO has been making a push to open source ever since he was appointed CEO. This really isn't a surprise to me. If you look at the IT world, most of your servers now run a flavor of Linux. It really does make sense from a Net Admin POV.

SN (Join to see) I'm not sure what BSD is other than Blue Screen of Death. But in any case, it's still a fascinating development.

I am well aware that UNIX/Linux is the server OS of choice, and has been for decades...

Does that mean we will be able to run Linux without a dual boot partition or Virtual Box?
