Anyone have any experience with this process? I am looking into the Air Force CRO (combat rescue officer) program. Specifically wanting to know how smooth or not smooth the process an be and if it is worth it for someone not wanting to jeopardize his career. Thanks!

Not sure if that is even possible. However, my professional advice would be to focus on being the best Infantry Platoon Leader you can be, learn from your NCO's and senior officers, and take care of your Soldiers. Once your Army commitment is up, then look at other career options. The Army has invested in you, and your Soldiers and NCO's are counting on you. You owe it them and to yourself not to be distracted away from the mission in front of you now.

The purpose of the Interservice Transfer program, or IST, is to allow qualified Sister Service commissioned officers to apply for transfer to active duty in United States Air Force to fill critically manned Air Force Career Fields.
