Can my unit legally request a picture of my civilian drivers license?

My unit is doing some dumb drivers questionnaires and they’re making everyone take a picture of the front and back of their civilian drivers license and give it to them. I’m not comfortable with doing this and I’m almost positive that this is illegal. I can find a regulation about it

Being a 13F I'm gonna assume you have a SECRET clearance, so what information are you worried about the gov having that they don't already? Remember your SF86 and DD form 4 when you enlisted?

I didn’t really think about that. There are some pretty shady people in my unit and that’s more what I was concerned about

SPC (Join to see) those shady people already have access to your social security number, date of birth, home of record and anything else they would need to steal your identity.

2–2. Army Servicemembers
The following minimum licensing requirements apply to military operators of AMVs:
a. Driving off the installation. Within the United States or U.S. possessions, operators must have—
(1) A valid OF 346 or DA Form 5984–E. However, commanders have the option to waive the OF 346 or DA Form 5984–E requirement for Army Servicemembers to operate non-tactical administrative DOD motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight less than 10,000 pounds (see para 2–6 for waiver requirements and situations when the waiver of an OF 346 or DA Form 5984–E is prohibited).
(2) A valid civilian driver’s license issued by a State (not necessarily the State in which the activity is located), the District of Columbia, or a U.S. possession (Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, or Guam).

L–1. Operator’s training packet
Each operator of Army equipment is required to have a personnel training folder that contains copies of training records and certifications received within current organization. All records must be stored in accordance with AR 25–400–2. The following list contains all required documents:
a. Completed commander’s interview from current organization.
b. Photocopy of civilian driver’s license.

If that doesn't answer the question up and down, left, right and center, I don't know what does sir! One can never go wrong with regulatory guidance.

Depends on the state, in NC it is illegal to photocopy a DL unless the copier has a letter from the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. Not hard to get if you have valid reasoning for copying the DL.
