Do you use http://isis.liveuamap.com/ for work? This is a great resource of open source reporting that has pictures and gives you idea of what may be going on and need to validate prior to reporting up the chain of command.

Sir do you know what sources feed this application? Do you know if the reports are vetted for truth and accuracy?

SGM Erik Marquez many are from twitter, other are similar social media with a few official statements from governments. Some are photos or videos of the live event, others turn out to be old photographs being passed off as current. Hence, why you have to vet the information, but it gives you a starting point of what you may need to look into.
I have seen this be pretty accurate for certain things about an hour before you see it on Al Jazeera. Official sources can be slower, but if you have a target to focus on it definitely helps our intel guys to know what the operations guys want to know is true or not and where.
