Honestly, I think it would be more beneficial to simply use a HDD optical drive caddy if you don't use the secondary OS very often.

Thanks for sharing, by the way.

Good knowledge to have for an understanding not really application basis outside the home. Units that work within non-Windows infrastructure in the garrison and tactical environment already are getting enough keyboard time. If we are more focusing on the Security for the home benefit that is a mixed bag. The attack surface you leave open on your home network and home machines is entirely up to what level you restrict and isolate your system on. Even though solutions such as Joanna Rutkowska's Qubes OS exist, they are not yet the widely adopted practice seen in modern OS systems. Good to see the open-source dialogue SGT Spratley always brings to the social media table.

Until removable drives match internal drive speed, I will continue to partition out my system.

SN (Join to see) - so the question really is what needs are you needing to have such speed requirement?

most thumb drives write faster than previous generation SATA drives. And distros run perfectly fine with it.
Also most distros are so small , that with today's computing power you can essentially load everything into memory.

For me doesn't matter unless you are looking at uber fast boot times.

Considering I'm a gamer at heart, it's all about speed. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't have enough RAM to hold the OS in memory alone. So I still go old school.

On a side note, if your running a heavy server environment you still want HDD or SDD OS.
