Doesn't seem like the writer of the article knew what he was rattling about. EFI Secure Boot is enabled on signature flagship devices. Disabling EFI will allow you to install any OS Medium. Some laptops such as the Lenovo Yoga's have EFI enabled and does not have a way to turn it off. In this case you will need to install a custom Linux distribution with EFI enabled. Like Ubuntu (15.10+)
