You cannot control what you feel.....you can only control how you react to your emotions. You can either react in a healthy way where you use the skills of emotional intelligence to navigate your feelings or you can go the standard route of drinking your problems away, repressing everything, and finding ways to distract yourself so you don't have to face the truth within.

We have to stop thinking of some emotions as "bad" and needing to be surpressed. That's part of what starts this cycle. It's okay to feel, it's normal to feel; it is what you do with it that matters.
