Here is a Medal of Honor extra for Rally Point this evening. Army Sergeant Sammie L. Davis has always been an inspiration to me. You may recognize him , they used his televised award ceremony for the movie Forest Gump. He lives in the tiny little town of Freedom, Indiana in Owen County, not far from our family farm. What the citation fails to note is that when the shell exploded knocking him from his gun, it also broke his back, but he continued to fight on. This man epitomizes the American Warrior Hero. He also gives inspirational talks around the county and plays the song "Shenandoah" on the harmonica that his Mother sent to him while he was stationed in Viet Nam. I salute this hero and all of our Brothers and Sisters who have served.

I was a part of the team that investigated and reported Sammy Davis's act of valor for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor. Of the four I worked on, his was the most heroic and following his career since then, his life is the most inspirational.
