What is the most unorthodox civilian job you've seen an active duty SM performing?

For example: My E7 platoon sergeant owed a lot of child support. So on weekends, he worked at Baskin Robbins. And sometimes served popcorn at the AAFES movie theater.

At Campbell, an E7 in my company was working nights and weekends at my neighborhood Blockbuster.

If he has time to work at Blockbuster, couldn't he use that time to study or whatever to make E8 or Warrant Officer so he can make more money and more pension?

SPC July Macias - He was a new E7, and back then we didn't have online college, or evening classes.
And at the time he needed to pay some steep fines.

Had an E-5 neighbor (off-base) that drove a big rig on the weekend. Leave Friday evening and be back home Sunday night.

I wonder how many miles from base he drove that rig. Can't be too far since you need a DA-31 to travel more than 300 miles.

I had seen folks at FT Irwin work the bar on base and work the bowling alley

Would be awkward as heck if you serve drinks to one of your soldiers, and he doesn't tip you. Or he committed a DUI.

SPC July Macias - Cantonment at Irwin isn't that big. You could take someone's keys and they could walk to most of the housing.
