evil? There is a big difference between helping someone and doing for someone. Tell you what, I need some help trimming my trees, you come over, bring the tools etc and I'll sit inside and watch tv while you help me out and trim my trees? Meanwhile I will whine to whoever will listen about how much my life sucks and no one will help me.

Dumb analogy. Besides on the 29th he said we'll be there everyday. Now he's threatening to leave which he didn't want to go in the first place until citizens and media slammed him.

LTC (Join to see) I think it was a pretty good analogy for the Mayor of San Juan. Don't come to the table with what you are doing, have done, and what you need help with, rather stomp your feet and throw blame around like a petulant child. It's pretty bad when FEMA chooses not to work with a government official because they are inept.

Sgt John Steinmeier - Her claims have been dismissed by other mayors who have also stated that she has refused to attend any of the planning and coordination meetings that FEMA and others have held.

LTC (Join to see) are you speaking from first hand experience or hearsay? And are you stereotyping Puerto Rican’s in the island as being lazy or just the Mayor of San Juan? Either way sounds like a stereotype.

How does stating the obvious make him an evil SOB?

The military's job is not disaster relief, they have a mission focused on national defense. A mission that they are NOT doing while they are assisting in PR, TX, and FL.

FEMA is designed for short term emergency response, recovery operations, and financial assistance. They are likewise not intended to be a permanent presence and administration of any location.

That is the local government's job. If the local government is not doing their job then, the people of PR need to make redress to the Federal Government to assign a military Governor to oversee the island. But you need to be very careful with that kind of request. Because with a military Governor comes martial law and the suspension of civil liberties and habeas corpus.

Why are the people of PR any different than the people of any other hurricane landfall location, and why should they expect permanent federal assistance to put their lives back in order?

I suspect it is not the people of PR doing the grousing, but the local politicians who have been shown to be inept and incapable, and who are now trying to divert the anger of their constituents towards the President and away from themselves.

Ok, what are the terms? How long are they required to assist? He's an s.o.b because he chose to call peaceful protesters the same

FEMA will remain until basic life support is restored and then set dates for all financial assistance applications to be completed. This has typically gone from six months to a year in the past.

And your crossing streams here with your justification. His actions on PR have nothing to do with the NFL.

No outrage on this one it's the truth. There are several regular Army Engineer units there as well as guard units and SEA Bee's. There are not that many Construction units left, so it's a no brainer that you can't tie them up for extended periods and have war fighting capacity to launch if anything comes up. FEMA is on the ground and they should be coordinating for the local civilian contractors to pick up the ball and as they come on line the Army and Navy outfits should be disengaged and sent back to refit. Abandoned; my rosy red ass! the response and assistance process is working as it should.

SSgt Ray Stone - Sending multiple Combat Heavies and Sea Bees doesn't equate to taking anything out on the victims. Nor are those the acts of an "Evil S.O.B."
The reality is that if your stuff is devastated and you're living hand to mouth, no amount of help and no amount of stuff will ever seem to reach you quick enough or in the level you'd like to see it arrive; because you're living in an uncertain time and uncertainties breed fear.

CPT Mike Cunningham - AH yes, there it is, the old and ever popular fall back and punt; Racist, fascist, pig reply. Was wondering how long it would take for that to be the answer. Don't like someone, their opinion or an answer: call 'em a Nazi, racist or misogynist and all other points instantly become moot.
Never mind reality that the units deployed are a low density asset and if in Texas or Florida and Louisiana would simply fall back to their home stations at FT Hood, Polk, Benning or Gulfport to refit and redeploy to fight somewhere in a matter of hours or days. Verses the time it takes to retrograde that type unit by air or ship. Have any idea how much equipment and capability a combat heavy or construction effects battalion brings to the fight/ rescue operation?
So yeah they can't stay deployed off shore indefinitely and be ready to respond to military needs which is what they actually exist for. But then again reality and combat readiness doesn't pull at emotions. Mean ol' POTUS plainly stating facts again.
