If you were Commander in Chief for a single day and had the ability to make 1 change in the military what would it be?

I would get rid of the up or out policy I have seen many soldiers get out as they didn’t want to lead, and some because they shouldn’t.

If a SPC just wants to drive the tank forever, let them.

MAJ Byron Oyler - That's how it works, so long as the money the comes out of one line item budget isn't impacting the other line item budget your new cash flows comes out of no one cares (20 years financial and budgeting career has taught me that). No one is optimizing the economic utility of America's overall resources. Everyone is just working within their little segment of it.

I think generally the vast majority of us are more than happy to talk guns and ballistics. The reality of it is that MOS segment is for the young and few, and the rest of us find our way into the system with the most we have to offer, and some of us find ourselves over the hump and just trying to get to 20.

I agree. I have always thought the British system worked well. I've known some soldiers who were top notch up to the E-4/E-5 level but struggled as they advanced. I spent a lot of time in the National Guard whre there is no up or out. I've known 20 year career E-4's that I wouldn't recommend to be E-5's. Some people can turn a wrench and be happy without having to analyze how exactly the wrench works.

Heck I was a SP4 and then Acting Jack Buck Stripes back in late 79. SP5, and then SGT. SP6-SP7 was great for those folks who didn't want or couldn't lead. We lost so many really good folks who were gurus and incredible at their Specialties. Bring back the Specialist E-4 to E7 ranks.

Spot on 1st Sgt! This is exactly why I got out. I had no interest in babysitting other people, I just wanted to do the job I signed up for.

Make it hard and warrior focused, quit having heritage this and that days and months, woke, BLM, gay month; eliminate anything divisive or that is soaking up training time. Time spent not training for war is time spent preparing to die.

I wonder if Ms. bitter, mediocre, who hates America, is off her meds? I was gonna report her-she-them (pronouns?) but she’s clearly just another unhinged leftist.

The whole gay/manny tranny is not what made America a superpower. It doesn't need to be a "maga bla bla" to understand this. We have a sitting president that signed a bill (executive order?) on day 1 to get men into women's highschool and college sports. DAY 1........ How ridiculous is that? And the stuff you said about 1SG Milan and other retirees is just pathetic.

If the Pentagon wienies would take a good look, massive problems at the VA are definitely impacting recruitment.
