And during the Vietnam Conflict field medics were differentiated from other squad members and were the second fatal target. The radioman is the 1st. The ranking member is the 3rd.

Makes sense; cut of comms, cut off the one sustaining them in the fight, cut off the head. Of course we encourage our subordinates to take the appropriate action as they see it on the ground in the absence of orders whereas other militaries don't.

PFC (Join to see) Most medical personnel are considered non-combantants and should be easily distinguished from other members. Of course this also lends to easily being taken out by the enimy.

When I was sent to Desert Storm our command wanted us to wear the red cross on white arm band. We as a unit (Field Hospital ) refused from the CO down to the HN.

I served 4 yrs. as an AF ER medic and never wore any insignia while on duty. We wore white scrubs.
We very rarely were required to wear our dress blues.

SSgt Richard Kensinger I ran ambulances out of Naval Hospital Great Lakes and Naval Hospital Naples Italy and we wore jumpsuits and boots.

PO2 Russell "Russ" Lincoln - Now that is cool! One drawback of the whites is that they readily reveal all the blood we encountered.

SSgt Richard Kensinger Yes I had that problem while working in medical clinics. A little hydrogen peroxide went a long way to take those stains out (not good for cofee).
