If you can do 1 mile, what about 3 miles? How many more can you do? I think it is our duty to stay in shape, just in case we are needed again? What is the minimum to be considered in shape? Five miles without dying or more? Agree

The nearest liquor store is 1.3 miles away. Thus, I can run 1.3 miles without stopping.

Do you drink at the liquor store? You could run 1.3 miles to get booze, then stumble and low crawl 1.3 miles back.

SFC Mark Sutton - Good point. I can probably run a mile fast with a grizzly or polar bear behind me, might not make a difference but I'll be shooting something big at them when they get close.

I was shocked that I could still do 1 mile without stopping, but since I've recently started back running I'm not brave enough to try much more yet. I would like to gradually increase the distance. I'm really not pressed about the time just as long as I can do so without stopping or having a heart attack.

Marathon training guide recommends increasing by 10% a week, to allow the bones to adapt to the stress.
