That’s the distinction between a 19D and a 19K is the tank. I have never seen a D wear the sabers with a tank. 19K’s drive tanks. That’s all they drive hence the tank. Scouts have a direct lineage to the old horse cavalry hence Cavalry Scout. Plus 19D’s are 99% more likely to dismount for a firefight than a 19K. Just saying.

Scouts are only technically cavalry. The U.S. Army doesn't actually have a cavalry branch; they fall under armor on all official paperwork. If you are taking a DA photo you must wear your armor insignia (the one with the tank). Otherwise, if you are wearing the armor insignia without being forced to I hope someone punches you because you need to demonstrate the pride that you have earned.

Cavalry Scouts have their own branch insignia and DO NOT wear the 19K insignia.

SPC Jeffrey Evetts - For usual wear, yes. But officially, no. There is no regulation dictated "cavalry" branch thus the cavalry branch insignia is not worn in "official" capacities (i.e. DA photograph). Unless the army drastically changed this in the last five years (and I can assure you that they did not) you can ask any E6 or higher who has had to take a DA photo for their centralized board appearances.

SGT Joseph Gunderson I’ve seen some of my SNCO’s DA photos and they always wore sabers no tank. I got out in 09 so unless it changed after I got out. E8 I’m not sure and maybe because at that point your 19Z weather tanker or scout.

If you’re a 19D then crossed sabers should becauthorized. We wore sabers even when assigned to tank battalions.

SFC Ralph E Kelley Like this ‘un?

That begs a question, is there a difference in the Marine Corps Sword and the Army’s Saber?
