I was quite active in the scouting program in Europe, where scouting is open to both boys and girls. I am guessing it will take some adjustment for the US scouting to accept, but maybe it's time.

Honestly, I think they should combine and become the Scouts of America. It's not like girls don't enjoy camping, fishing, and all the other cool things offered in BSofA.

I think that the BOY SCOUTS should remain just that. Why does an organization have to change and allow females into its memberships? If they want to they can change girl scouts into just "Scouts of America" and they can include climbing merit badge right alongside animal husbandry, sewing, baking and what else they have now if they like. They can keep their cookies too. If girls are drawn to the Boy Scouts because they do more things outdoors, then change the award structure in Girl Scouts to include such interests and leave the Boy Scouts alone. Geez we joined so we wouldn't have to pick up our socks in the tent and we could be dirty and still eat our campfire meal after we washed our hands. Now we will have to be little gentlemen and not have fun anymore? Is it a societal thing that if its called the "Boy Scouts of America" some girl has to crash the party and be included or we will offend someone? They have the Explorer Post in Scouting for young men and women if they so desire to cohabit a tent, climb, canoe race or some other outdoor activity and I think this is great. Leave the Boy Scouts alone is my thought on this.
