I would think schools should encourage parent involvement. The more parent involvement the better school usually is. MHO

I disagree with the board's decision. I think it was a chicken shit ass backwards decision that sets a horrible precedent.

But I support their right to make that decision.

Yes, all employees have freedom of speech. But freedom of speech does not mean - and has never meant - freedom from repercussions for your speech. She posted in a way that undermined and discredited her employer. Employers have a right to set expected standards, including not bashing them publicly.

Of course, the underlying decision to cut the song was ALSO chicken shit and ass backwards. But also within their rights.

I understand what you’re saying. On this case the teacher was just commenting on a decision that was made. If there was embarrassment it is because of the board members. If they’re a policy that allows teachers to go directly to the superintendent when others in the system are unresponsive. If not than I say the teacher was exercising freedom of speech. This is a weird situation because the superintendent does not have authority over the school board members at a typical school.

Come to think about it I can’t see how a school board got involved in a decision like this. Something very fishy is going on here.

SFC (Join to see) I very much disagree with their decision. I think their justification is weak, and I think they did just about everything wrong that can be done wrong.

BUT....

If I were to go on social media and say "Inwork at Company X and my boss is a dumbass" I am pretty sure both my boss and my Company would be none too pleased. I would very likely face disciplinary action.

That is what has essentially happened here. IMHO her post comes nowhere NEAR firing-level offense. And if she is a member of the union, she should ABSOLUTELY fight it.

But just because *I* don't think it was a firing-level offense doesn't mean that it was not that level in their eyes. At the end of the day, all of this is my opinion, not iron clad fact. Everythins here is subjective. And I am very careful not to substitute my opinions for others' or to insist others have to follow my opinions.
