Is it normal not to get any paperwork for a combat patch? I deployed to Kuwait and ran missions into southern Iraq and was told by the command I can wear a patch they did the ceremony and all but I never got a memo or anything. I got out of the Guard and re-enlisted in the reserve. I wanna wear my patch with the new unit but I have nothing to back it up with. Any ideas? Someone said just wear it no one will ask questions.

I didn't get anything after either deployment. There is no paperwork necessary for wear, though I have heard some commands will issue a MFR.

I have a certificate for my first, didn't get it til we got back. Didn't matter then, haven't been asked for it ever.
People do still look at me sideways when they see my BRO patch and ask me how Fort Riley is, and i tell 'em i've never been there.

My question would be did you put in enough time in Iraq to qualify, I thought there was a minimum time frame for being in a combat zone, and I know Kuwait alone came off that list years ago. I thought it was tracked by your orders putting you in a combat zone as well.

SSG (Join to see) you are 100% correct the operation must have lasted 30 days are longer. "There are no time-in-theater requirements for authorization to wear the SSI–FWTS" is a direct quote from 670-1. I believe that in this case the doctrine is referring to operation on the scale of named operation i.e. OIF, OEF, etc. This reading would rectify the seeming self-contradiction of the regulation.

You do need 6 months for Combat Hash mark for your sleeve. If I remember correctly.

If you served long enough in h th water, a copy of your orders and the unit deployment order are what is needed. If you were attached then attachmentvirders are required as well. The unit service orders will reflect the patch. You should be able to get a copy from the unit of attachment b

As I understand it, if your unit is deployed as well you wear your units patch even if attached. I read this to say he deployed separate form his unit. ThanksMSG (Join to see)

If you deploy as part of a Company element or larger than you wear your unit's SSI regardless of what command you are assigned/attached to. If you deploy as part of an element smaller than a company, i.e. Platoon, Team, Individual augmentee, than you wear the patch of the attached unit. e.g. In 2010 I was part of a company that was deployed at attached to 101st, but I am not authorized to wear the 101st combat patch, because my element that deployed/was attached was a company size. Conversely, if I had been deployed as part of team and attached to them then I would have been authorized to wear their patch.
