from the article: "'I haven't ran into any gender issues in travel blogging but definitely in aviation. As a blonde girl it is not easy all the time as you are constantly underestimated by your flight instructor and colleague,' she added."
well, when one makes an error as a travel blogger the likelihood of people getting hurt is rather low, if one makes an error as a pilot, well the likelihood of people getting injured is a bit higher.
I also got underestimated by various liberal arts / humanities professors, since they usually don't run into computer scientists.

SSG Diane R. - I can only tell from computer science as an outsider that some professors were very positive about any females in the field. Yet, of course, I don't know if there was not also discrimination from others.

The flight instructor I learned the most from was a young blonde woman who had to bring a pillow with her to see over the dash. Hell of a great pilot.

LT Brad McInnis - not surprised, in computer science and tech related stuff, of those few women I encountered about 50 % were far among the best.

Bernhard Kast - update on my last post, I think 50 % is way off, it was more that some of those women were exceptionally smart and industrious.

Interesting that she has had a hard time finding work as a pilot. It is not everybody that has the experience to handle an aircraft full of passengers...
