As of 2018, does the U.S. Army still wear berets with their OCPs? Can you choose between the patrol cap and beret?

The beret is not worn unless in some kind of event or ceremony. It just isn't a functional piece of headgear and it has been relegated to a ceremonial status which is where it should belong. Any hat that takes two hands to put on is not a good Army cover.

This concept of wearing the black beret for a formal ceremony makes no sense to me. It just looks silly. We got rid of it for a reason, drop it for anything except the dress uniform

Looking back on the post, yeah. Definitely. Doesn't make sense to maintain it for anything but that. Honestly, I prefer my bus driver hat. I can put it on with one hand.
