Currently serving in Korea and received projections for 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment BDE. This will be my first time in Fort Hood, and I'm looking for any input in regards to the unit itself and any advice about the post.

Fort Hood is huge, massive training areas owned by five families and rented to the military... Avoid cows lol.... Texas is on another level when it comes to dry heat. Be ready for the field frequently, NTC and going back to Korea again for sure. If your planning on living of post look to Copperas Cove or Harker Heights as they are the better areas and not to far from post... Avoid Clear Creek gate in the morning or you'll definitely be late..

I was on Ft. Hood as a MP for 89th MP BDE, All entrances are bad for morning PT ! Texas is hot during the summer but has a lot of places to go for cool down Belton Lake (Military side was a good place to go) as with any duty, Its not the place but the people ! Stationed at Ft Hood for 7 of my 8 years , but it has changed since 9/11 I see a better Ft Hood on my last visit :-) Good Luck and stay sharp !

Hey LT, Write or email your Battalion Commander, get the name and address from PERSCOM if needed. The BC will be happy to hear from you and will look forward to your arrival. Ask for a sponsor, some one responsible enough to do the job correctly. Hood is big and III Corps is active, but in a short while you'll be leaving again for your advance course and first command as an O-3 - so, DON'T buy a house. Enjoy your time there, because it will not last for long.

well you will be part of the newly renamed 4th sustainment brigade. I looked on our sponsorship tracker for the 553d battalion but you are not on there so i cant tell you where exactly you will be going but its not under one of our companies here in the 553. best of luck to ya tho sir. Fort hood is hot, but the worst of it has past for the year.

What's the break down for the battalion? I'm trying to find info on it, but there's barely anything that talks about the structure of the unit

Well sir i think there are 6 or so Battalions in the Brigade... I only really know the 553D, we have 8 or 9 companies. which atleast one of them is transportation, but like i said you are not on my battalions tracker for incomming, so you are more than likely going to one of the others.
