I think the facebook comments pretty much summed up the whole thing. There is no double standard. Even if those costumes could be linked to the Black Panthers, a mighty big if at that, equating one group that came from the fight against violent, oppressive racism(the Panthers) with the symbol of the group that perpetrated that same violent, oppressive racism( the Klan), is just plain stupid.
Anyone, not just certain people, can do whatever they want in this country. It is a free country, after all. Just be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions.

Every action has a reaction may it be positive or negative . I think a lot of people forget that until they have to deal with the results

This is in no way a double standard. That flag is not even a true symbol of the confederacy. It was never flown by any state during the Civil War, which was not fought over states' rights. The Civil War was fought over one right and it was "the right to property in slaves". That flag was adopted by the Dixiecrats who were attempting to prevent desegregation of schools and were also attempting to prevent the passage of a law that would make lynching black people a crime. The Black Panther movement was established to empower African Americans to stand and fight institutional racism.

SFC Robert Bower - Fundamentally incorrect. John Casir was the first slave awarded as part of a civil suit. But John Punch was the first slave for life awarded. And that was in 1640, 15 years before the John Casor civil suit brought by Anthony Johnson against Robert Parker. But that has absolutely nothing to do with this argument whatsoever. The argument here is that the confederate flag is a symbol of racist oppression. Which it totally is. And the Black Panther movement is a symbol of the fight against that oppression. So, only a bigoted racist would think that to display Black Panther sympathy makes it ok to display confederate sympathy

How is it people forget history until they want to prove something they have to say, but then in the same argument want to forget history when it does not hold true to what they want. Also when using history to prove a point should you not keep that history in the same context of the time? Hell even in the same century might be nice. But please if you are going to use the argument that the war was fought only over slavery (which after it had ended it was only illegal for South to have slaves and many still owned in the North) perhaps you should educate yourself a little more.
