Apologize for this being so long but wanted to provide all the details. Was hoping someone on here has had experience with this situation.

I received a phone notification from my HRC branch manager that I was selected to be an instructor at the 37F re-class course due to one of the two instructors just being promoted. Definitely a career broadening position and increases the chance for promotion so I am excited for the change.

Until the last year, the classes were split half at Ft. Dix, NJ and half at Ft. Hunter Liggett, CA. For the past year, all of the classes but one usually are now at Ft. Knox, KY due to having a permanent work area and class rooms and better support from the post where as the other two (to include where the instructors are at Ft. Dix) were only borrowed facilities and everything was packed up and shipped back or stored after each class.

I spoke to the person I am replacing and both he and the unit (80th Training Command TASS) say I need to be the first full timer at Knox and all other 37F instructors would start going there as well since that is where the facilities are, otherwise if I am at Dix, I will be TDY 5-6 times a year for 31 days each going to Knox. They want me to report 1 AUG which I am good with because the kids would start school the next week but to do this, the overlay listing my position needs to be changed from Dix to Knox. It is being worked but I am looking at taking the full 45 days PCS leave since it is a complete cross country move so the sooner I get orders the better.

Does anyone know of any way to speed up the process or even if it is even possible? I just don't want to plan and research one location to find out in a month that it can't be done and I am going to the other.

CONGRATS, on your awesome opportunity to mold future 37Fs.

Hope you get your answer quickly.

Sounds like you need to ask the guy you're replacing to find out who can make it happen for you quicker.

It sounds like you are kinda “at the mercy” of the system right now. I have in the past created a TMA request for future structure which takes 60-90 days. The future structure overlay is sufficient evidence for a future vacancy. The owning command of the position G1/CG must submit the TMA request to USARC with supporting evidence of the position and your name aligned with the para/line number.
