Especially when it comes to the 2nd Amendment (The Right to Bear Arms), it seems the government has an agenda to remove or modify these rights for whatever reason.

Does this concern you as someone sworn to defend these rights?

Keep in mind that a lot of our current situation is a cumulative effect. Most of what is happening during this administration would not be possible without the cumulative effect of 40 years of complacency.
Reagan outlawed open carry in California in the early 70s when racial profiling was high and black militias took to the streets to defend against overly enthusiastic law enforcement and their illegal practices. Brady law in the 80s, patriot acts following 9/11... the list of laws that whittle away at the constitution predate Obama. You want to change the issue, get behind a real candidate for your states congressional delegation. One that will get the garbage of the last 40+ years cleared up.

Term limits. I think that is the last hope to bring back peaceful Constitutional authority to the country.

SGT Jerokiah Darr CW2 Joseph Evans Gentlemen, I recognize the concern of gradual accretion of power and restriction on citizens. One of the notable restrictions is the prohibition on armed forces bearing arms in their own defense in the states. MAJ Bryan Zeski Sadly, this is needed. If the American public as a whole was not so stupid we would not need term limits as many of those serving would not get past one term.

I'm thinking some people in this thread are just trolling. The Constitution is permissive, meaning it can only grant power to the federal government. The first 10 amendments were amending the federal powers by LIMITING them. There is a big difference between organized and unorganized militias. Some people might think the national guard is a militia, but legally, it's just another federal organization. Some states still have organized militias (Biggest one I can think of that is often used is Texas), but an unorganized militia is generally every able body man who knows how to use a rifle. Some older state constitutions elaborate this. Georgia, in particular, every county has a white pillar centrally located in the county where the unorganized militias are supposed to muster in time of war.

Further more, the Federalist Papers elaborate on what terms and other concepts meant. The Constitution is over two centuries old, many words have changed their meanings over time. As far as arms go, we used state of the art weaponry to fight the rebellion against the crown. To simply think that only common men and women were ONLY allowed to have muskets and pistols is completely false and inaccurate. Common citizens had cannons, sailing ships of war, and our Congress can STILL issue Letters or Marque, commissioning private citizens to wage war against other countries.

The 2nd amendment was to ensure a revolution by the people could be done again, if needed. Anyone remember the Articles of Confederation? We screwed up as a country on creating a federal government, so the States got back together to start over, and it still works (subject to opinion). Our current federal government can still be undone (legally), if the States so do choose. Our federal government is NOT absolute.

As far as America having a 2nd American Revolution, it cannot be done by service members; otherwise, this new government would have zero credibility like some third world country military coup. It has to be done by the ordinary citizens and veterans of the states. It is a government of The People, by the People, thus it has to be the People. That is why every American citizen needs to be armed, so they can abolish their tyrant governments if they so choose, by force if necessary.

Have you read Benjamin Franklin's speech at the first Constitutional convention? He was not totally satisfied with the Constitution, but said it was the best they could do. He foretold of corruption that would eventually lead to a despotic government.

I believe this is why the Bill of Rights allows citizens certain rights, one being the right to bear arms.

Very concerned.  Just remember, why would a political party do anything to help you if they know you will vote for them anyway?

Your elected leaders need a healthy fear that they will be challenged in the primary or they will forget about their base.

Major, I feel that our elected officials have lost sight of the fact that they can be fired. I personally don't think they are worried one bit. Good post.
