I am currently finishing my 1st year of a 3yr contract with the NY Guard. I want to go active duty, everyone is saying because I just got home. But I know active duty is what I want. The military has become a great part of my life and I enjoy it, plus I’m not trying to get in trouble in NY (already ran into a few altercations) I am a 25L, my pt score is high, my asvab score is a 70, I graduated Honor grad from ait and I have letter a letter from my CO of ait saying I was an outstanding soldier. I also did not receive a bonus from the military so I don’t have to worry about paying that back and I am even willing to reclass if needed. I just can’t be in NY it’s nothing but trouble and that’s the whole reason I joined the military. To stay on the right path. Does anyone have any tips, is there anything I can do to better my odds of getting released? Anything helps.

Thank You

1) Speak to your PSG as he will be able to provide further guidance on your specific situation.
2) Your Command (COL or Higher) will have to sign a 4187 pertaining to your conditional release.
3) HRC, i.e. branch manager, will have to provide a memo releasing you from the signal branch. Of course this is conditional.
4) Speak to a recruiter again, as you will have to initiate an entirely new contract.
5) Dont waste your time doing any of that, go to college and do ROTC. Utilize TA and other tools to do so. Upon graduation with a Bachelor Degree (Doesnt matter what in) you can commission to active or decide you rather stay a weekend warrior.
6) If attending college is not something you want to do, then don't waste your time going active as civilian education plays a large role even on the enlisted side. Your certs, i.e. Sec + and etc..., will not be the sole factor in promotion.
8) Throw your ideology pertaining your ASVAB score out the window, it doesn't matter. The only thing that will matter is your line scores from it, examples being GT score.

Hope this helps as I am 5 hours away from Staff Duty completion so I am tired. If I missed anything I am sure someone will add to it.
