Did the MD Governor take his time?

Is this a Guard function?

How long before this spreads city to city...?

This is 8 up from the ground up...

Use of the NG to restore order during a civil disturbance is generally under the umbrella of State Active Duty, directed by the Governor. I say generally as each state has different laws that constrain or restrain either the NG or the Governor or both in this situation. The determination is for the Governor and his team.

I agree that has got out of hand. Governors are always reluctant to call in the Guard into a City. There are a lot of political ramifications. The Governors is basically saying that the Mayor can't protect their our citizens. It may look like the Governors is strong arming the Mayor as now the Governor has a force on the ground that he controls in the city. I have no faith in the Mayor in that city.

I would too. That being said, in recent years general officers have been asked if they would fire on US citizens if given the order. Several who said they would not were relieved of their command and were retired. I don't think they will succeed but I don't doubt they will try.

SPC Nathan Freeman I would like to see a citation for such information. That is a pretty difficult thing to prove. It really seems like some ultra right wing accusation. In the military regular Army soldiers are rarely used on our own soil. The National Guard is there to be used these places. If an order like that were given out I would see Governors reject such an order and use the guard to defend the rights of the people in there state. That is just something some crazy people want you to believe. I was in a unit with a guy named Ryan Payne. He was like you. But after he got out he went way off the deep end. I would really caution how you read these things.

1st LT Eric Rosa For what it's worth, http://www.examiner.com/article/author-military-purge-meant-to-weed-out-officers-who-won-t-fire-on-americans
Admittedly there is some speculation but there is also first hand testimony. I'm trained to sift through propoganda and there is definitely some propoganda in the article but there is also testimony. Everything about the current POTUS gives my the willies.

There are allot of issues in this Country that need to be addressed. The people doing this are thugs but the anger is real. Generational economic depression and a cycle of violence in Africab American communities make issues like the Gray matter a tinder box. We as a society have to take responsibility for our failures. I do not know all of the facts in the Grey case. I won't comment to the officers behavior. I will say that we have to hold officers to the standards that are there. They must respect the 4th ,5th and 6th Amendments to the Constitution. You can't argue for selective protections of law. There is no room for Machieavellian attitudes in free societies.

No we can't. But we do the best we can to show we are there to help and support if needed.
