What are preferable units to apply to as a 2LT in the MSC in Hawaii?? Can anyone shed some light on what responsibilities there would be/ how the units operate? Also are MSC reservists able to work in the hospital?? Thank you

Cadet LTC (Join to see) sur what is it you choose to as branch. That's where you start dont concern yourself too much with the unit we have alot. Infantry we got 100/442 INF BTN we also have 411 Eng BTN, Civil Affairs, 740th Maintenance BTN. what is you want to do in the Army Reserves

planning on Medical Service Corps. The only "hospital" unit I found was Det 2 1984th US Army Hospital and I'm not actually sure if that's somewhere I can station at. I'm trying not to attach myself to a maneuver unit if possible.

MSC officers can be assigned to a line unit. As a matter of fact, a good majority begin their careers as the medical platoon leader in combat arms units. Every battalion in infantry, armor ect has a medical platoon. Hawaii has the only infantry unit in all of the Army Reserves. You’re in luck. :)
MSC officers do work in hospitals. They traditionally are hospital administrators and handle the hospitals administrative duties to free up the physicians. They are also tasked to attend flight school and, command the Army’s Air Ambulance units. You’ve hit the jackpot.

SSG (Join to see) - My old memory thinks 442d is a Neshi unit. Not sure a howlee would fit in. Kinda US answer to UK Gurkas.

Would also recommend contacting PMO at HRC. If you are not OBC and Branch qualified dont bother. Get the tng/schooling completed first.

Cadet LTC (Join to see) - i'll look but so far 70B is over strength by 300% around the nation. Any particular AOC you want to track? its different than active. Depending on your answer i can look for you.

The 70B AOC is always overstrength because it is a feeder AOC for the other admin AOCs. The majority of non Active Component 70B positions reside in units that are in the National Guard and are exclusively Company Grade positions. The units in the Guard force structure need more Company Grade MSC Officers and fewer Field Grade. The distribution between Company and Field Grade MSC positions is the opposite in the Reserves. There are far more Field Grade positions for MSCs there vs the Guard. Hawaii is unique because there are units in the RC force structure that normally are in the Guard.

MAJ Tom Hutton - Sir this is more about slots and where he would feed into.
My unit for example has more 70B's than they can handle so they slot them in 70H, 70E slots for example. Sometimes having a liking into a track AOC has higher weight than that of not. So sometimes knowing that you want to track a specialty early on especially on the reserves becomes critical when looking for slots as a B.
