How does one request approval to wear another branch's patch for the SSI-FWTS?

Per AR 670-1, Soldiers are not authorized to wear another branch's patch as their SSI-FWTS without written approval from DCS, G–1 or a designated representative. How is this process done? My Soldier asked me and I have not the foggiest idea and I would like to get him that answer. I've tried looking in HRC, but my internet is slower than a snail stuck in molasses in the Arctic.

In the most recent approved case, it was the MARFOR commander in Iraq that made the request after Fallujah from my understanding. I think the intent is it is not a Joe by Joe request process
Editorial Correction: the period specified in AR670-1 is for the initial combat operations of OIF when the Marines controlled half the Avenue of Advance. Not Fallujah. It was Army Armor supporting Phantom Fury, but those soldiers would wear their Divisional SSI.

MSG (Join to see) to my understanding, yes. Pretty sure 670-1 describes the exact ETPs authorized for those soldiers in Iraq. I would look at the HRC Awards Page and their uniform page FAQs

MSG (Join to see) - Para 19-17 in AR670-1 where I think you pulled your initial info from, has the "thou shalt not wearith" a sister Service SSI-FWTS and the Army DCS- G1 approving authority.
This is the only one I saw authorized, so If this applies to your soldier, then this is the justification they will need to cite, when, not if they are questioned about it.
"14) Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF): between 19 March 2003 and 31 August 2010, both dates inclusive, for Soldiers assigned to units participating in OIF. Soldiers must have been deployed in the CENTCOM area of operations, or partici- pated in OIF while deployed in Turkey, Israel, or on Aegis cruisers. Soldiers who served with the 1st Marine Division between 19 March 2003 and 21 April 2003 during combat operations in support of OIF are authorized to wear the 1st Marine Division SSI as their SSI–FWTS. Soldiers who were deployed in the area of operations on training exercises or in support of operations other than OIF not authorized the SSI–FWTS, unless those exercises or operations became com- bat or support missions to OIF."
Unless they have creditable WWII service under the OPCOM of a Marine Division....there was a time where the Americal Division fought as part of the MEF.

During the surge, my BCT was assigned to II MEF. The II MEF commander requested, to Army G1, that my BCT be authorized the II MEF SSI-FWTS. Now if there was only a II MEF patch to purchase we could wear it.

My unit was also assigned to the ll MEF in 07 and are authorized to wear the patch through Army G1. We we're able to find the patch through military clothing but they can also be found online with just a quick search. https://www.usamm.com/products/2nd-marine-expeditionary-force-multicam-ocp-patch

Like LTC Jason Mackay states, is not a single Soldier’s request; more like the powers that be. He uses a great example, a GO level request.
