I think nations who sign up or commit to a common, fair share (2% of GDP) should either meet their commitment within 3 years or be expelled from NATO. I think Trump is correct when he puts pressure on them and says they should abide by their commitment. NATO members can push back all they want with various levels of granularity, claiming they met some requirement within some sub-category of NATO commitment...but US citizens should know a portion of our taxes going to DoD is providing for the defense of Europe, and many European nations are taking advantage.

They signed up for NATO and agreed to fund their own defense and safety and then do not meet their agreed upon funding. Either they do not believe NATO is worth funding or are/have been willing to take a free ride for decades from the US tax payer. Not only did we have to bail them out in two world wars, rebuild their countries through the Marshall Plan we then had to stand down the USSR post WWII with NATO.
For the few that fund it fully and participate actively, thanks for being good allies and partners. To the rest, pay up, get involved and do you part.
