I want to see more service members in the lift lines, and as instructors at Line-Ups.

The first step is heading out....

Here is another Salute to Service in NH for Veterans.

Skiing looks awesome. One day I'll learn how. In the meantime, on a geographically-related line of thinking, I have a question: late May vs late September for hiking in the White Mountains; which is better? I hear there are more black flies in May and lots of mud. Which is the easier month for hiking and which is more crowded?

It depends on your intent?

Are you looking for winter hiking and Alpine Traverse type stuff, or shooting for a day hike to the summit? A Preidential Traverse, or a Camper Hiking, or based out of AMC Huts, or are you going to try and hit the 4,000 footers????

This year, we have had snow on the high summits since late September.... and last year in late April/Early May we were still skiing to the car...... this year... there could be more snow!!!

So..... I would rather risk the early leaf peeper crowds next Setpember; than get stuck in a late season storm on a high peak...

Other than their driving, the tourists aren't likely to get you in trouble on the mountains....a quick storm, can kill you up here in the spring.

CPT Ray Gilmore Walking/scrambling only; day-hikes, but I like to get up to summits and get out of the trees. Your answer confirms my expectations.
