A call to all Texas VFW members!

...& any combat Vets who might want to join!

...or any Veteran who wants to join us!!!

Commanders and Comrades,

Your outreach efforts to Senator Springer’s office have paid off and we are scheduled to have Senate Bill 989 heard at the Business and Commerce Committee Meeting at 8:00 am on Tuesday April the 20th in the Senate Galley.

As this is in the Senate Galley there is plenty of room for attendees and we need as many VFW Caps and Auxiliary uniforms as possible in the seats on the third floor.

State Commander Shawver and Mitch Fuller will be providing testimony all we have to do is show up and by our presence show the legislators that Executive Orders closing down our Posts when they where needed the most does not set well with us.

Come as an individual or as a group from your Post and make a day of. If you have never been to the State Capitol or it has been quite some time make this a reason to come.

I know 8 am is early for those who have to travel and to complicate matters if you have not received your COVID vaccine you must take a COVID test. It’s simple, a non-invasive nasal swab and a 10-15 minute wait. If you have received your COVID immunization then bring your immunization card and no test is needed. Plan on arriving at 7 am if you need the test. You will also need to wear a mask.

Visitor parking is located at 1201 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX 78701 and it’s a 5-10 minute walk to the North Capitol entrance for the COVID screening from there. You will walk past the Price of Freedom monument that the Texas VFW was instrumental in funding several years ago, it is a monument that will bring a tear to your eye. You will also be able to walk to the Vietnam Veterans monument as well as the Korea and WW II monuments.

Once you are cleared to enter from the COVID testing you will enter the Capitol and go through metal detectors. After you pass through the metal detectors go to the rotunda which will be easy to see and turn right. From there take the stairs or the elevators to the third floor for the Senate spectator galley.

Texas VFW Staff members will be there to assist with directions.

As a reminder SB 989 is the bill our Lobbyist, Trey Blocker, drafted for us that would prevent VFW Posts from being closed down by Executive Orders from the Governor.

Please send this out to everyone you know as we need a sea of VFW Caps and Auxiliary uniforms in the Galley supporting this legislation for your Post.
