Has anyone heard whether or not a Soldier is authorized to use a belt on the deadlift for the ACFT? I fully expect the answer to be no, but I haven't heard anything. In reference to the 340 max by the way.

Belt? No. Why? Because Army.
Seriously though, ACFT guidance allows only authorized items issued as part of the APFU for use during the ACFT. A belt would make sense, right? Tightens the core, keeps the back straight, allows for heavier lifting. Hell, paint a weightlifters belt in that reflective high speed danger yellow and there you have it... but will you have one under combat conditions? Simply put, the belt makes up for where body can’t. Remember, the ACFT is an assessment of total body strength and not a competition. It is designed to replicate real action. The deadlift resembles carrying a heavy litter, ammo, a casualty, or lifting an LMTV (What, you can’t?) It would be an unfair advantage and unrealistic to use a weightlifters belt just as it’s unfair to have springs in your shoes, lifters straps, or meth in your Gatorade. Advice? Gotta treat it like the Cossfit Games and pace yourself throughout the events for the best overall score. Develop those gainz over time and consistency.

The only authorized equipment to be used during the ACFT is 670-1 approved gloves for the Dead lift and Leg tuck. No other equipment is authorized

I'm so un-suprised. I cant wait to see the profile numbers after this. I normally go belt over 315 but went 335 today with no belt and it's just dumb hard to keep form for 3 reps. Maybe I'm just not as strong as the Leaders that make this stuff up. Who knows?

I’ve graded 3 tests so far, I’ve seen 1 person do the 340 with proper form. I’ve safety stopped 6 individuals attempting itWO1 (Join to see)

SSG (Join to see) Good job! My thing is we're going to have hundreds of Soldiers in a Bn that have never lifted that are gonna be doing the most complex full body lift, and their supporting muscles aren't going to be strong enough. As an "Old school" NCO, I totally get the whole, "well then get stronger" attitude. But theres a reason people who regularly lift heavy weight use equipment like belts. I'm sure there will be some type of restriction, at least on lower levels, of using different shoes to deadlift and run as well. I like the ACFT, but as of right now, I'm not sure Company grade leadership is ready for what's to come.
