Cuz your Recruiter prolly needs to push that job. If you don't want it, don't take it.

The good thing is that time is on your side, the numbers are constantly changing about how many they need and where.

Just like in any business they have over stocked item they need to move. In the military's case they have MOS's/Job that they need to fill so they push to fill those slots. Some thing to consider are: 1. if the job his is pushing (if it's not something you totally hate) is a shortage promotion opportunities could be better. If there is an overage in the job your wanting sometime advancement can be difficult. Choose wisely.

Janet Allen - Very valid points however back in 1996 I wanted to transfer from the NG to active duty so bad I took what they had. I regretted it and was chaptered out of the Army that same year. Kept working and later I commissioned into the nurse corps, medical is where my heart has always been. This SFC gives great advice as most SRNCOICs do but also listen to what you want. Right now the economy is good and the Army needs people, don't hesitate to walk away if you are not happy with your options. Also remember there are other branches.

Your recruiter has quotas by mos. Tell me you want the mos you want or call his commander

CW4 Craig Urban - You've obviously never been a Recruiter. I have and also a Station Commander to boot. A Recruiter's Mission Box is set up by Mental Category, i.e. 1-3A, 3b, 4, male or female. They don't deal with MOSs, that's the Guidance Counselor's job at MEPS. I used to tell my recruits to try and be flexible at MEPS but if they only wanted one specific job, were qualified for it and it wasn't offered, then get on the bus and come back home. We'll try a different day. It caused the occasional ass-chewing from Company or Battalion but a recruit being pushed into a job he/she absolutely doesn't want becomes a credibility issue for the Recruiter in his/her town when the Recruit returns and labels them as a liar. The pressure put on Recruiters and Guidance Counselors is tremendous but I always tried to put myself in the Recruit's shoes. You can't push someone into doing something they despise for your personal gain in my book. It's called integrity.

Not great advice actually. No other branch other than the Army can guarantee what job the soldier gets. If he goes AF or Navy, he will not be picking his job. His best option is to stay patient.
