How ‘upskilling’ is changing the workforce and salaries

Makes a lot of sense. One of the biggest cost in most business is labor. Consumers want it fast and cheap so companies pay as little as possible especially for no to low skilled labor. When the cost of labor increases as it has on the left coast, businesses replace humans with machines. Replacing 20 checkout clerks with self check-out terminals is costly investment but these terminals aren't rude to customers, never call in sick etc. Hire one tech to keep the terminals working is good business.

What I find particularly interesting is that schools do not seem to be preparing students for life as adults. As I told my son, you need either (marketable) skills of an education to earn a living wage yet schools do not seem to be preparing students for success...
