I'm not a fan of government service employee unions. Unions only serves themselves, and not the US. They also raise the cost of every government effort, which means the burden of government unions falls on every taxpayer. This article does a good job of explaining why they probably do more harm than good.

It also violates his right of free association. And one additional item that the courts will not touch is that the very act of this also violates the law in government hiring.
"The February 26 Supreme Court case pits an Illinois man named Mark Janus against the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the union to which he’s forced to pay dues to retain his job as a state social worker. Janus says he doesn’t want to pay those dues — he doesn’t like AFSCME’s politics, and making him pay the union anything violates his right to freedom of speech. But pay he must, if he wants to keep his government job."

You can't join the VFW of the American Legion, be a Shriner or a Rotarian, for instance, and enjoy the benefits of those, or any Order or Association without being a member. So why is the argument about free association only brought up when it comes to unions.

SN James MacKay - Interesting but with those that you used as an example, you do not have to pay unless you join. As for enjoying benefits, if you do not join a union you likewise do not enjoy union specific benefits either. But with the other taking advantage of some of their benefits you are not required to join them; so it does not make sense for the stance that you are supporting.

It's a catch 22 on both accounts to reap the benefits and entiltlements of certain organizations and/or companies to include federal entities

Imagine that. National Review is against Unions. Who would have ever thought that? Lots of cherry picked facts, and race baiting here. Eight guys in California, make way too much in retirement, is used as an argument against unions, for instance.

I must have missed any race-baiting, but then again I wasn't looking for any. I was staying on the topic at hand. Government unions, not all unions, and not race.
