10 year wedding anniversary; what's the best way to take leave for it?

I have not typically seen block leave around that time. It probably depends on units, but I've mostly seen it during the holidays, pre and post deployment, and sometimes during spring break to coincide with kids being off from school.

That said, a lot of people take leave when not on block leave. You get more leave in a year than there is block leave to take it, typically. There is nothing wrong with requesting a week or two of leave for your anniversary. Just make sure to do it as early as possible with your future command, so they can manage their internal schedule accordingly. Of course, if there is a big field exercise during that time, you probably will not get to take leave, but that's a risk you'll have to take in your planning.

So how did the wedding anniversary go? Anything big planned for 15?

If you haven't already gotten this handled, two things...

Number one - leave is not a privilege, it is a RIGHT. You have earned those leave dates to take whenever you please, so long as it doesn't interfere with mission requirements. Get the leave in early enough and they should have no issues getting it approved as long as you're not in the field or something.

Number two - most (not all) units have policies that give Single Soldiers their birthday off, and Married Soldiers their wedding anniversary off (some units give you the option between the two, especially if your wedding anniversary tends to fall during block leave or long weekends).
