The civilian conservative and ex military circles are suggesting the top brass is being promoted /demoted due to their political alignment with left minded officers gaining positions that should have gone to more qualified conservative brass… im no longer in the military so do you active duty think this is happening or is it theory only?

SrA Art Siatkowsky I would say so, since he is in in his last two years of his presidency, he wants to surround himself with more liberals in my opinion.

What circles? What is the difference between a left and right wing general; what are you even talking about really? You mean that service members that were vocal about their dislike for the CinC may not have been promoted? This is weird to you? How would he be able to tell if they are upholding the UCMJ? What examples does anybody have?

SrA Art Siatkowsky - If you vocally criticize your superior in the military (Any company for that sake) you will not get promoted...This is not rocket science, it is not a conspiracy, it is the way it has worked in the military always. Even then the President does not usually participate in decisions for promotion, he makes decisions regarding appointment such as who serves on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Promotions tend to be handled by the individual branches.

Gore threw in his hat after he lost at the Supreme Court (see Bush v. Gore). The Supreme Court halted a recount, and upheld the original certification giving the state to President Bush.

CPL Rice you are spot on. Why should anyone willing to publicly criticize their superiors be given a position any further then where they are. Professionalism is a must, neutrality comes with the territory of being a senior military leader.

No qualified person should be overlooked for a promotion in either the civilian world or military based upon their race, gender, political affiliation. This is not what goes on with this current administration. Openly criticize or not this administration replaces those who do not agree with its political correctness or ideaology. It happens in the civilian world and my curiosity was if it was appatent to those still in the military. A chart provided above Is similar to several links I have saved from other sites…. Not fox news…. But I do not know how to post links here… its no facebook. I get my news from various sources and I do look at the liberal side to see their take on these issues… but to criticize the one conservative news channel amongst a feild filled with bias left wing propaganda shows either you dont follow carefully or your fully indoctrinated into their bias.

SrA Art Siatkowsky - Below I have posted Article 88 of the UCMJ, the minute they openly criticize the CinC they become unqualified for promotion. Further most Officers are extremely adept at maintaining a political correctness about themselves, so they will seem generally supportive of any President as the military is subservient to the people through the election of the President. I did not criticize Fox news so I have no idea what you are talking about there, I believe your general premise is flawed, and if you look at that chart that was provided it is talking Naval Officers whom for the most part I am yet to read about one being fired without genuinely deserving it. It is the United States Military not the Catholic church it cannot sweep its controversies under the rug, it needs to take out the trash.

To bring up an interesting point though, President Obama has had a rocky relationship with the military, one of the reasons as Robert Gates a Secretary of Defense appointed by President Bush, who was asked to stay on under President Obama (The only President to ever allow that) said was that there was so much suspicion from the military that generals ran out making statements on strategies that were decided by the President that that tied his hands. Look at the General McChrystal’s resignation, which was the simple result of the President needing to maintain control over the military.

I also have trouble with this because it is constant criticism that the President does not do exactly what his advisors want, and he does not have a record of firing advisors for no reason so how can he be purging?

Article 88 of UCMJ

“Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”
