What type of transition and reintegration programs can our govermwnt implement to better prepare our veterans for their return to civilian life. What can government do to prepare and educate the veteran's family members on hope to identify the veteran's triggers?

VA benefits should be automatic for someone coming off active duty for up to five years.
The process to request VA benefits should be an automatic process by which you leave active duty and based on a discharge physical you are assessed and assigned a disability rating, all medical records should transfer over. The physical should have a follow up 180 days or one year later at a VA hospital to check the discharge physical findings.
I think this action alone would solve many issues with soldiers missing care.

Good point, LTC Shaw, but your suggestion make too much sense for the politicians to understand!

SGT Laskaris, We agree, I don't want to provide benefits to veterans not in legitimate need. I say nothing about granting a percentage of disability, only that an evaluation process should occur. If you have a physical on the way out of service, the VA can use this to prove/disprove as required to support the service member and provide the service needed. Most young service members will have no problems and many soldiers would have a 0% disability rating. If they come back later in life with a specific issue, because the documentation is available in the VA system, they have a better shot at getting care.

I firmly believe that there are a number of individuals receiving benefits fraudulently.

Does anyone think that the VA can handle any more on their plate? Maybe military personnel shouldn't be discharged until their disabilities/injuries/illnesses arising from their service are resolved.

By 100% support of the American People Including the Media and the Left when Soldiers are in Combat! Finishing and Winning a War or Conflict is Mandatory if you we want soldiers taking their lives when returning! Democrats are so quick to say thanks! To your or I for our service but Really What you and I needed was to have had their support when we were in Combat 100%! You see in WWII the Democrats and Everyone else supported the Troops 100%! The same was True in Korea! Not so strange that we have so many mentally sick Veterans from Vietnam Iraq and Aphganistan! How do you take a Village a town a Country and then have a Pres. in fact turn it over to the Enemy WITHOUT HAVING THE WORDS NO ONE WANTS TO SAY "Died in Vain" It hurts to my soul! I was suppose to have died in '67 but another young man Traded Places so I I did not Die but he did! What for Refugees now so many years later that same thing has happened again in Iraq well you know the other country! Now we have Refugees Again! I hope some one says this is not so! If not I just hope that it does not happen again! Cates

SP5 Michael Cates - Sadly, We the People are now divided and there are ideologues who have a vested interest in keeping us divided. They agitate and take advantage of every crisis to drive us further apart. I can't imagine us supporting anything 100% ever again.

As a government entity ... I think they are doing more harm than ever ... I still believe that this kind of problem can only solve by the people only, not through the government.

Sgt Joe LaBranche - Local community need to KNOW the veterans. That is always what is going wrong. No one know them, when no one know them no one will reach out to them. While no one reach out to them ... no matter what kind of programs private or governmental, it will not reach them.

PO3 Hy Thong, it's worth the try. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) offers a couple of programs that is geared towards the warrior and the warrior's family/friends to understand the triggers as well as the other mental illness issues. The one program is called, Homefront. Took the class and was duly impressed with it's grassroots approach to help families and friends understand.

Support the War Win it and then HAVE VETERANS THAT HAVE SOMETHING GOOD TO SAY ON A REGULAR BASIS WHEN THEY COME HOME! As is what I have observed is Democrats like to say after the fact THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE which are really hollow words BECAUSE THEY DID NOT SUPPORT YOU/I during the War or Conflict!
