I hope I'm not going to be sorry for posting this. There is a twist to this story you will see, when you read it. It surprised me. Maybe it will surprise you. I had no idea this was happening at my favorite Texas college. Austin's motto, "Keep Austin Weird" applies to this story, because it is weird.

It’s a good thing the Yellow Rose of Texas never had to go through the University of Texas admissions process. Then again, yellow may be ok these days. But UT Austin’s not-so-color-blind admissions maze made its second appearance yesterday before the U.S. Supreme Court, which may soon decide the fate of the university’s practice of judging applicants on the color of their skin rather than the content of their academic character.
The case, Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, was filed by Abigail Fisher, a white student rejected for admission by UT Austin in 2008. Fisher claims the school’s “holistic” admissions process violates the Constitution’s equal protection clause by favoring some minorities on the basis of race. Under current Texas law, public universities like UT grant admission to the top 10% of graduates from every Texas high school. Because many of the state’s high schools are effectively racially segregated, the 10% rule leads to “automatic” diversity. Indeed, in 2004, more than 21% of UT’s freshman class was black or Hispanic without the help of any race classification.

Thanks SGT (Join to see) I was telling a young friend at church about Austin City Limits and he had never heard of it.
The UT college at Austin "Keep Austin Weird" seems to be unfortunately appropriate every now and then.
I am glad that the SCOTUS agreed to hear the case about university’s practice of judging applicants on the color of their skin rather than the content of their academic character. Hopefully they justices will exercise wisdom and prudence in this matter.

Hopefully they will change their admittance structure to accommodate the ones who earned a right to go to college, not based on skin color, LTC Stephen F.. I'm kind of upset to hear this. Two of my kids graduated from UT and one of my granddaughters is attending her freshman year at UT.

Unfortunately, this does not surprise me at all. Society still views people through the prism of color, or gender, or ethnicity. All of it is wrong. The fact that a very liberal college in a very liberal city does it should not be any surprise. Colleges like UT specifically discriminate against others solely based on the color of their skin. It's disgusting and we should not tolerate it.
