We talk about the cost of building fence. We know that it will cost much more than it should. So lets let the engineers from either the regular army or NG do it. We will save money be built better, on time and our troops will get some good hands on experience. Plus our equipment which most time just sits in the motor pool and collects dust to used for what it was designed to do.

The first requirement is to have elected representatives that want the fence.

Darn, Capt. beat me to it by 7 minutes. Also, the matter of funding such an endeavor comes into play. Cut off all bennies for anyone here illegally and they go home. Question is: "How the hell can we determine who and where they are?" This applies to ALL illegals, not just those from the South.

MCPO Roger Collins, great minds...

And as to finding them, E-Verify would be a great tool if used regularly.

There is this little thing called "Title 10" which restricts that active military from protecting our country from inside the borders.

Well sir if you could please show me or tell me where in Title 10 it say that. So far all I could find was that executive branch could allow it. Or why could we just not say it's a training mission.

SFC Dave Wynn - You just answered your own question. Yes, the executive branch can allow it; however, this executive branch will not as they will have to give up authority to the military. That is called Martial Law.

Was done in the early to mid 2000s as a matter of fact. The problem that I see with it is that is using combat engineers as free labor, instead of training them. I have put up a very small amount of chain link fence, and I could do it 20 years from now without any refresher training. Combat engineers need to be good at many skills that are perishable.
