Army Resilience is built on the foundation of six competencies (self-awareness, self-regulation, optimism, mental agility, strengths of character and connection) using twelve skills. One of those twelve skills is being able to capture the good things that happen to you each and every day. It's called Hunt the Good Stuff and it's a way to counter the negativity bias in most of us. Write down three good things that happened to you today and reflect back on those things. P.S. It's been scientifically proven to make you feel better!

BG BOSSE:Respectfully Sir, I have found that the individual's embedded core beliefs prepare them for adversity. The downward spiral that leads to depression is when the individual's self talk becomes hopeless and impacts the logical and rational side of the person. The emphasis of knowing your calling.Knowing your enemy.Knowing your friends.Knowing your equipment.Deploying with the right mindset.Pulling from your belief system in a higher power.

CPT Davis - I agree. These things are what have sustained soldiers in previous generations as well as now.

CH Davis, I agree with many of your points. But one cannot ignore the research and the work of the Army with Dr. Marty Seligman at the U of Penn that shows without a doubt that resiliency skills can be taught...hence the Army's MRT program.

Sir, thank you for the awesome topic here. It's been a long time since I've paused to write things down like this. Three good things that happened to me today/yesterday are: 1) talking with my Dad, which I don't do often enough; 2) exercising outside in the morning, which I should do more; and 3) pausing to reflect on the adventures of the past year. Thanks again for posting, and I look fwd to reading everyone's responses. I think this is something we should do more often on RallyPoint! :-)

WO1 Baker, respectfully when I was a WO1I had multiple setbacks and it was a defining moment for me. The challenge to accept, and trust, and growth despite of intentional or unintentional wounding. The lessons learned of yesterday will prepare you to Lead from the Front.
