Night and day without NVDs or GPS and a KD with azimuth. Can do with full battle rattle, ruck, and rifle with a squad over a 48 hour advanced land scenario... Just need map, compass, and a way to track pace.

Nice sir well you cant win the war alone Patton so we will need future thinkers rather than ppl relying on technology to put in the fight

We should always remember that technology even though a great and wonderful asset and force multiplier in some cases - It can be knocked out quite easily or malfunction/fail at the worst possible time (either by itself or by malicious means. Everyone should be trained in the basic navigation means with and without a compass (low tech does come in quite handy when our technology fails). Also, remember history - low tech was kicking our butt in some of our previous conflicts due to our high leadership thinking that our technology would allow us to quickly walk in and squash the un-technological third world countries (we've seen where that type of thinking left us).

<p>exactly that's why I am so hard up on training the troops within my grasp the importance of old school survival and training to get through the hard times... those times will be more difficult to endure for the next generation of xbox'ers and ps4'ers coming in.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

As a Geography Major, in my expert opinion, GPS is a crutch.

That is the problem it is overlooked and when the dirt meets the meat in battle technology may not be their for us. We will rely on those who honed training from prior time of the war to guide us through tomorrow's battleground..

I certainly could. I can't stand technology. I can't live without my iPhone for Facebook and rally point (may need a rehab center for phone addiction), but I plot my routes for trips in a road atlas. I'd rather a supervisor leave me a voicemail and wait until I get back with him/her like one would if I only had a home phone. To top that off, electronic records are not standard enough for maintenance management/dispatching. I'd rather have standard forms across the board as we once did, and see calendars up with service schedules and tracking boards to show the generals and brigade commanders when they show up. I mean, I know that technology can help and can be efficient, but the deadlines that I've seen set for some tasks are ridiculous and it's all because of the invention of technology; but I charge you, is the quality of our work the best that it can be 100% of the time?
