I have talked to many veterans about the transition to civilian life and almost every one of them misses the military at least to some extent. There are many benefits to being a civilian, but there are also some things that you just will not find outside the military. For me, and for most people, the thing that we miss the most is the camaraderie. We miss having people that are there to help us and work with us as a team. We miss having a mission. I haven't felt like I had a legitimate purpose since I left the service. I go into work, I do my job and I leave. Sure there are other people who are working there as well, but I never feel like we are working together. It really sucks.
I recently started working with a company doing part-time work to make some extra income and I have to say I feel like I have finally found a team. The people are happy, they are motivating, I get people calling and texting me just to say good job and offering help without me having to ask for it. The people actually invest in me. I have the chance to work directly with my coworkers or completely independently. We get together regularly outside of work and hangout just like when I was in the service. It's a great company and I just wanted to share with everybody on here because I know that I am not the only one who misses having those things. Also, I am making almost as much money, working part-time, as I am at my full-time job. If anyone is interested in this let me know. It will change your life, guaranteed.

Same here, you can't replace the camaraderie of a team that works sweats and bleeds together. You simply don't do that in civilian live. Neither are you bonded by duty and responsibility to each other. Out here its simply about the Benjamins with co-workers ready to throw you under a bus if you stand between them and a raise or promotion.
