I just wanted to mention that veterans who are admitted into RESIDENTIAL PTSD programs will receive the full 100% disability rating while they are in the program. Please seek help if you are advised that you will benefit from a residential program. Many veterans think that they will be financially ruined to lose that much work, that is not the case. When you are discharged from the program, they will submit ALL the paperwork on your behalf. It can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months, but you will receive a lump sum payment. If you have any questions, post them here for the benefit of the group.

SFC Dr. Joseph Finck, BS, MA, DSS No sweat. Let's get it out there. How many times did we have to put off our own health or needs to take care of our famiy? It is a concern that is first and foremost in our minds. By bumping us up to 100% they ensure that we can get the help we need and still provide for the family.

SFC Mark Merino Thanks for bringing this up!

Just for edification - there are many incidents where someone can listed as 100% disabled for a temporary time. There are specifics to each situation, but most are temporary.

I want to be clear about something here....we can run ideas up the flag pole all month long but nobody gets anything until somebody sits down with someone and makes a claim. If you have surgery to replace/repair a knee - you may, or may NOT be temporarily rated at 100% until recovery is complete. These are situations that are each unique and each has a specific set of rules / regulations that must be handled properly when submitted.

Never deal with the VA alone!

Use a Veteran Service Organization Service Officer to help you fill out the proper paperwork in the proper sequence to ensure you get everything you deserve. Certainly, you can file the paperwork on your own - right on the VA's own website - no one is taking that away from you. But I assure you, if you fail to submit the proper paperwork - you can lose painfully. Be smart, take the time to use a Service Officer to apply for the rating - or at least ask a VSO to oversee your claim. It takes less than 3 minutes to fill out the paperwork to allow a VSO to oversee and advocate on your behalf if something is not quite right.

Look, there's a reason the various VSO's and their regional service offices personnel go through at least 40 to 60 hours of training annually - because the VA is a massive organization with a myriad of rules.

Don't deal with the VA alone!

Rock on PO1 (Join to see) ! Use the service officers and stay away from the lawyers. They will do NOTHING that can't be done for you FOR FREE. Why give them 30% of YOUR MONEY??? They are predators, preying on the desperate veterans.

I think this has changed and maybe for all programs. Residential program brochure for Cincinnati PTSD program states "The PTSD program is not affiliated with the C&P dept" and "it is expected that improvement in symptoms of PTSD is your main goal for attendance." So I don't know if they're still doing temp 100% or if our cheapo government has cut that out.
