CMSgt James Nolan went from Marines to Air Force and so did MSgt (Join to see) SGT Richard H. went Army. There are a lot of former Marines that change over it seems like. What new field are you trying to get into?

My cousin switched from Marine Corps to Army. He has served with the Active duty USMC, Active duty Army and the Army National Guard. Also I served in both the Active duty Army, Reserves and the Active Duty Air Force. Do the switch....just make sure you get a job you will enjoy doing for the rest of your enlistment. If you pick the wrong job you will not like the service you pick regardless of promotions, duty stations and how well you are treated. I had little choice of AFSC's when I entered the Air Force. The jobs I wanted I was unable to get due to my status as prior service. I might still be in the service if I would've got the AFSC I originally wanted when I entered the Air Force.

Good Luck,
Your friendly neighborhood Veteran

Like SGT Richard H. I also changed more because of MOS and also a injury that kept me from the Corps. Don't worry about boot camp the Corps is good for Army, Navy and AF but not vise versa. Not sure about the Coast Guard. A Corporal in the Corps has much more responsibilities then a E-4 in the AF in most cases. Also NCO starts at E-5 in the AF. You would also see a big difference in military bearing and discipline. That being said I enjoyed my time in the Air Guard, seen many countries. But the Corps never leaves you and maybe you leave the Air Force a little better off my being there.

When you choose a service you should utilize the following criteria:

1-treatment of personnel both enlisted and officer
2-availability of duty stations both OCONUS and CONUS
3-awarding of decorations ( Are you more likely to get decorated for the same action in another service versus the one you are in? )
4-advancement to next rank

I'm a Marine Corps Reservist right now and I'm debating on going Active Army. Except I don't know how everything would transfer over. I'm a Combat Engineer and want to remain an Engineer if I go Army. I'm also a Lance Corporal - does that mean I would become a PFC again in the Army?
What are the benefits to switching?
