2nd BDE Replacement (Germany), can you give me some info about it?

I will be PCS to Germany next year. I was told I will be going to 2nd Brigade Replacement. I've been looking everywhere, I googled it, looked in the Bavaria site and there's absolutely nothing to find about it. I even contact my branch manager to double check the information and they confirmed is 2nd BDE Replacement.
Do you have any information about this unit? Or is it like a "reception" unit?

SGT(P) (Join to see), it looks like you already have some great responses on your thread already, but I will echo some of them. You should arrive to Ramstein from BWI via the "Patriot Express." From there, you will be taken on a bus to your installation. There you will be assigned to the in-processing center until you meet the installation requirements and then you will be released to your unit. Do you have a sponsor yet? If you do not, you can go into the Army Career Tracker and request a sponsor. Your Platoon Sergeant or 1SG should be able to help you out with that if you need it. You are going to enjoy Germany. There is a lot to see and do. Good luck!!!

1SG Steven Stankovich thanks for the response MSG, since this PCS is for next year, I'll prepare myself for the moving and gather all the information I can.

You have generic over-seas orders. I had the same thing when I was a 2LT. It is unfortunate that you are unable to get pin-point assignment orders at this point in time. You will arrive to a reception unit and go through the theater in processing requirements and then be sent on to the unit you are slated against.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - When I left Germany in 2009, both Vilseck and Grafenwoehr were "US Army Garrison Grafenwoehr," as in, they were considered the same installation. I don't know if that's still the case.
I lived in Vilseck while my unit was in Grafenwoehr.
I'm not sure if my response helps you any, but transferring between units in either place should be rather easy.

SFC (Join to see) I've been told that SSA is in Vilseck, me being a 92Y, Unit Supply Specialist, it would be way easier for me to be stationed there than anywhere else. I'm still excited about Germany so, wherever I end up going, I still be glad.

As you should. I spent 4 years in Friedberg, Germany and it was a great time. I would love to go back.

I know that, way back in the dark ages in 2003, when I originally got orders to Germany, it was to 64th Replacement at Rhein Mein Airbase. My AIT Drill Sergeant went to a website, typed in my SSN, and found my pinpoint location.
It was a long time ago and I don't remember what website it was, but I'm putting this here in case anyone in the know stumbles across it and can help out.
If you do go to Vilseck, I think you will find it enjoyable. It is out in the country side, but not too far from everything. The "Army culture" is very family oriented over there - much more so than CONUS installations. As someone else said in this thread, make sure you take advantage of travel opportunities while there. Vilseck is roughly 2 hours from Prague and Munich; 45 minutes from Nuremberg; 3 hours from Frankfurt; 7 hours from Venice and Amsterdam.
Oh, one last piece of advice - make sure you have a basic understanding of how electric currents work. Otherwise, you may fry some of your electronics.

We're pretty "fat" on 92Ys right now sir, but you never know how that is going to shake out...

I would make an educated guess that it's a reception unit, and you'll get a pinpoint assignment once you get there. They'll need to process you.
You'll come in to Rhein Main Airbase, most likely, and go to the general replacement detachment there, then get orders to the 2nd Bde Replacement which will then pinpoint you further.
What is your MOS?

Frankfurt has just a small USO now, its rare for anyone to fly into it. Everyone pretty much flies in/out of Ramstein

Reception unit, you will in-process Germany there, conduct your headstart program, take your drivers license exam and then after a few weeks, your unit sponsor will come and get you.

They don't offer the headstart program anymore, now you just report to the unit and do in-briefs on a schedule over a months period.

So they no longer give you two weeks of basic German classes? @#@#$@#$
When I was on active duty, and went to Germany on my second tour, despite already speaking, reading, and writing fluent German, I was forced to go through headstart again....not allowed to skip it.

unless something has changed in the last few months there is no replacement unit at Graf. After a quick inprocessing at Ramstein you'll be put on a bus to Graf and be dropped off at building 244 and that is where the sponsor will pick you up. Before you leave the building you'll be given a hard time of when to return to being inprocessing.

They aren't separate posts anymore, all admin stuff is done on the Graf side. 2CR which is the unit I am guessing you are going to does something's but pretty much all of it is handled at Graf.

You got any more questions just hit me up. I am deployed right now but I'm stationed at Graf so I can get you going in the right direction.

SSG (Join to see) I really appreciate that SGT, while there's a lot of SM here that have been stationed there, they don't have that much info to offer.
