An off-line query has flooded in about "who is that critter next to you on the bunker sandbags."

That is (or was, alas) Specialist 5 Clyde. All I know is that, when he adopted me, he had E-5 rank on his collar, a 201 file with orders, and a serious urinary tract infection. We managed to find a veterinarian who could take care of that. He then took up residence under my bunk, and it was clear that I had water and food duty.

Legend has it that he originally went to Koala School AIT, but somehow got mis-assigned as a dog on the wrong continent. Then again, lots of us felt that way in some sense.

Last deployment, there were a few stray dogs that would visit the FOB. There were a couple bitches that took up residence when some of the Soldiers started informally adopting them, even had some puppies. Then one of the 1SGs decided to start enforcing regs...
Some not so happy campers by the time he started cleaning his 9mm.
